The 7th and 8th grade got to share their published novels with 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students today. The younger students also learned a little bit about the process of writing and publishing the books. The 7th and 8th graders began in August by creating maps of their story’s “world”. After this, students wrote detailed travelogues that introduced their setting to others. Then, the students had to create and describe at least six characters, learning about their protagonists, antagonists, and every person or creature in between. Finally, the students started on the actual story itself- crafting the beginning, middle, and end by first startIng with the creation of a detailed plot map. They also learned that the editing and revision process is ongoing! Last, but not least, the students learned how to use an online publishing program to design their layout and book covers. The end results were wonderful! The 4th-6th grade readers and parents who joined us were duly impressed at the variety and quality of writing. A great way to close out a busy week!
